Most alterations are completed the same day. Bring your gown, your shoes and your event date. Our in-house seamstresses handle hems, bustles, bodice adjustments and repairs for our gowns and for garments bought anywhere.
Same-Day Alterations & Casual Tailoring at Yes I Do
The alterations studio at Yes I Do Bridal Boutique is located directly inside our West Miami boutique at 5830 SW 8th St. In most cases, alterations are completed the same day. Our seamstresses provide fitting and tailoring for both formal and casual garments—from bridal bustles and hem adjustments to everyday wardrobe repairs, for our gowns and for garments bought anywhere. Customers can request a fitting online or call (786) 575-2432 in English or (786) 560-2130 in Spanish.
On-Site Formal Alterations
Fitting for wedding gowns, quinceañera ballgowns, and eveningwear, including bustle construction, bodice taking-in, hem shortening, and modesty panel additions.
Casual Wardrobe Alterations
Adjustments for daily attire, blazers, trousers, skirts, and cocktail dresses so your everyday wardrobe fits comfortably and well.
Formalwear Alterations vs. Casual Garment Alterations
Not every alteration is the same. A bridal gown with lace appliques and a boned bodice requires different techniques than hemming a pair of trousers. Understanding the difference helps you know what to expect and how to prepare.
Formalwear alterations
- Bridal bustles, hems, and bodice taking-in.
- Lace applique matching and illusion bodice adjustments.
- Quinceañera corset and temporary rental adjustments.
- Eveningwear hems and strap tailoring.
Casual alterations
- Trouser and skirt hems.
- Blazer and jacket adjustments.
- Waist taking-in on everyday garments.
- Simple repairs and fit tweaks for daily wear.
Because every garment and fabric is different, we cannot promise that every piece can be accommodated. Our team can assess your garment during a fitting and let you know what is possible.

Bridal Bustles & Complex Gown Restructuring
A wedding train adds elegance to your walk down the aisle, but it needs a sturdy bustle for dancing at the reception. Our seamstresses specialize in several bustle styles so your gown stays beautiful and manageable all evening.
- French / under bustles: Tucking train layers neatly beneath the skirt with color-coded ribbons for easy pickup.
- American / over bustles: Lifting the train gently to exterior hook points along the natural waistline.
- Bodice & corset resizing: Taking in or letting out structured boned bodices while matching lace appliques invisibly.
The Alterations Process
A good fit is the result of careful work, and in most cases we finish the same day. While every garment is different, formal alterations generally follow a clear path so your gown is ready in time for your event.
We assess the fit and pin the hem, bodice, and bustle points while you wear the shoes and undergarments planned for the day, and give you a quote on the spot.
Our seamstresses sew the adjustments in-house. For most hems, straps, bustles and bodice tweaks, the work is done the same day.
The gown is pressed and steamed, and you take it home ready for your celebration. Complex bustles or corset rebuilds may need a second visit; we'll tell you up front.
Alterations for any garment, bought anywhere. We alter gowns and formalwear from our boutique as well as everyday clothing—pants, jackets, skirts and more—purchased at any store. The number of fittings a gown requires depends on the garment and the changes needed. For bridal gowns, see our bridal dresses page.
Common Alterations We Handle
Alterations range from simple hems to complex restructuring, and understanding the most common adjustments helps you know what to ask for. The list below describes general services at a high level; whether a specific adjustment is possible depends on the garment, its fabric, and its construction. Our team can confirm what is feasible once we see the piece in person.
Hem adjustments
Shortening or leveling a hem to the correct height for your shoes and the garment's intended occasion.
Bodice taking-in
Narrowing the bodice for a secure, flattering fit that stays in place through movement.
Bustle construction
French or American bustles that lift a train neatly for dancing and movement.
Sleeve & strap adjustments
Shortening, narrowing, or repositioning sleeves and straps for comfort and proportion.
Waist adjustments
Taking in or letting out a waist on trousers, skirts, and gowns for a better fit.
Simple repairs
Replacing closures, fixing seams, and other everyday repairs for casual garments.
The Art of Hand-Pinning & Hand Finishing
Good tailoring is quiet and precise. Much of the work happens before a single stitch is sewn, during the pinning stage when the seamstress marks exactly where a hem should fall, where a bodice should be taken in, and how a bustle should anchor. Hand-pinning lets us adjust in real time as you move, so the final fit reflects how the garment behaves on your body rather than on a form.
Hand finishing is equally important. Invisible hems, matched lace appliques, and cleanly set closures are what separate a tailored gown from an altered one. Our seamstresses take pride in these details because they are what you and your guests will see—and what you will feel as you move through your event. For formal gowns, this level of finishing is especially valuable; for bridal and quinceañera gowns, it is essential.
Real-time pinning
We mark adjustments as you move so the fit reflects how the garment behaves on your body.
Invisible finishing
Hidden hems, matched lace, and clean closures that look tailored rather than altered.
The Fit Consultation
Every alteration begins with a fit consultation. You try on the garment with the seamstress, who assesses how it sits, where it pulls or gaps, and what adjustments will improve it. This conversation is the heart of good tailoring: it is where your preferences, the garment's structure, and the seamstress's expertise come together.
We encourage you to speak openly during this consultation. If something feels uncomfortable, tell us. If you want a hem slightly longer or a bodice a touch more relaxed, say so. The goal is a fit that feels right to you—not just one that looks correct on paper. For formal gowns, this consultation also covers how the garment will behave during your event, including how a bustle will work and how the gown will move.
Honest assessment
We tell you honestly what is possible and what is not before any work begins, so there are no surprises.
Your preferences matter
The right fit is the one that feels right to you, and we adjust to your comfort and taste.
How to Prepare for an Alterations Appointment
A few simple preparations help your fitting go smoothly and produce the most accurate results.
The exact shoes you plan to wear are essential for an accurate hem height measurement.
Wear or bring the undergarments you will use on the day so the bodice and cup placement fit correctly.
Tell us your event date so we can plan fittings and ensure the gown is ready in time.
If you have a veil, belt, or sash, bring it so we can coordinate the final look.
Fittings are unhurried. Plan enough time to try the gown and discuss each adjustment with the seamstress.
Bring any questions about care, pressing, or how to manage the bustle on the day. We are happy to walk you through it.
When Alterations Are Appropriate
Alterations are most rewarding when a garment is worth the investment: a gown you love that simply needs to fit better, a quality everyday piece that would last longer with a small adjustment, or a treasured dress being prepared for a milestone. In these cases, tailoring transforms a good garment into a great one.
Sometimes, however, a garment is not a good candidate for alteration. A piece that is too small to let out, a fabric that will not hold a change, or a garment whose structure makes the work impractical may be better replaced. We will always give you an honest assessment so you can decide with confidence. If you are preparing a gown for a wedding or quinceañera, you may also find our bridal and quinceañera pages helpful for planning the full experience.

Rental Returns & Garment Readiness
For quinceañera rental gowns, alterations are typically temporary and reversible so the dress can be returned in good condition after the celebration. We will explain how to handle the gown on the day and when to bring it back. Returning the gown on time and in the agreed condition keeps the rental process smooth for your family and the next celebrant.
For purchased gowns and everyday garments, garment readiness means the piece is pressed, steamed, and ready to wear or store. We can offer general guidance on pressing and storage, and we recommend specialist preservation for gowns you hope to keep as heirlooms. Confirm rental return timing with our team, and see our quinceañera services page for more on rentals and sales.
